On Residency

Crisis #1 happened yesterday afternoon. One of the viola players had a bow that broke. Usually bow breakage is due to physical trauma but in this case, she was just playing. It was worth about $3500 and she had had it two weeks. We made a trip into town to the local UPS store and sent it off home. She is borrowing a bow from an instructor as here back-up bows are not very good. Her bow is fixable, but the break has done two things to it. First, it has decreased the value significantly. Second, it's hard to say how fixing the bow will change the sound.

I am very tired today. The sun is out and it's not as chilly as it has been. I brought shorts, but I don't think I'll have the chance to wear them. Oh well.
