Getting things done
They have been giving us so much stuff for the last week and a half. Four hours of lecture every day except two.
I went to my preceptor yesterday. I was the first one in most of the rooms after the nurse. I am getting more and more comfortable doing things on my own and doing physical exams. I still can's see into little ears very well, but I am getting better. I had my first repeat customer. I saw the little girl on my own both times. It's neat. The hardest thing about doing the physical exam on kids is that they are squirmy and I don't want to jam an instrument up a nose or in an ear (ouch). Yesterday, as I was looking into an ear, the little boy jerked towards me and then reacted to the otoscope being pushed into his ear further than it should have been. I said, "I bet that hurt." Mom laughed a little. Glad she wasn't upset, but then again, why would she?
Most of the parents there are happy to let me come in before the real doc. I tell them that I am a student and that the doctor will be in after me. I am getting better at asking questions and at asking the right questions. I am forgetting less as I do basic checkup exams. I am getting more comfortable 'putting my hands on'.
The whole point of this tangent is that I have been REALLY overwhelmed and spending an afternoon not studying isn't so good at alleviating that feeling. I didn't get started on stuff until late last night and I didn't get to study at all. I am feeling better today, though, and our schedule is getting lighter this week, so I should be able to catch up more. I have monday off too.
I am not behind because I have been slacking off. I have just had so much to do. My basic feeling is that there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done I need to do and to sleep.
That's all. It's going to be a bad day to drive tomorrow.
